Arriving in the United Kingdom
Oxford is about one hour northwest of London. Two airports serve London, Heathrow and Gatwick. There are flights into both airports depending on your gateway city leaving the US. We strongly urge individuals or groups to arrive no later than Monday morning before the Tuesday July 24th seminar beginning at 9 am.
Getting from the Airport to Oxford
There are several ways to get from London airports to Oxford (“Oxford” refers to the name of the town as well as Oxford University)
A bus leaves every hour from both airports (Heathrow and Gatwick) for Oxford’s central bus station. You can catch the bus just outside the terminal after you retrieve your bags. We suggest this option. When you arrive in Oxford just outside the bus terminal there are cabs to take you to your hotel or Regent’s Park College, our meeting place.
You may rent a car. Remember that in the UK you will drive on the left side of the road. It is not easy to find a parking space in Oxford.
You may hire a car. A driver will meet you with a sign at the airport and drive you to Oxford and your hotel or the college. This is the most convenient and expensive option.
You could take a train. You must take the airport train to London, change train stations by taking a cab or the Underground (subway). The Oxford train leaves from Paddington Station. This is the most complicated option.
Location of Seminar Meetings
The seminar meets at Regent’s Park College, Oxford. Oxford University consists of more than 40 individual colleges. Regent’s Park College is located on Pusey Street off St. Giles. Please visit the college website at http://www.rpc.ox.ac.uk.
The seminar meetings begin promptly at 9 am directly upstairs from the main entrance. The seminar meets from 9 am to Noon and 1 to 3 pm. Please be prompt for both sessions.
